This 75cl Bischel 2020 Gau-Algesheim Riesling 'Terra Fusca' is a dry white wine. The nose reveals aromas of wild herbs, grapefruit, and peach with a little air. The palate is crisp and grippy, with lovely tingle and a slim augur of gorse-leaf and yellow floral scented loaminess. Greengage and sweet lovage leafiness are also present, followed by a white-pepper spiced finish. The grapes come from the oldest Riesling vineyards in Gau-Algesheim's St. Laurenzikapelle, where the steep, south-east facing slope allows the grapes to ripen very slowly, producing a juicy Riesling with a cool minerality and wild notes of herbs and grapefruit. A very late harvest of the highly ripe grapes is staggered by hand for optimal extraction of aromas.
