Tenuta Fanti, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Macchiarelle, 2015

£230

ABOUT THE WINE. Farmed by the Fanti family since the early 1800s, the Tenuta Fanti is a 300 hectare estate in a valley just south of Montalcino, complete with olive groves, fields of wheat and grain, and 50 hectares of vines, within the boundaries of one of the most highly regarded appellations in Italy, Brunello di Montalcino.. TASTING NOTES. A dazzling example of a noble wine, developed fruits of prunes, raisins and dried cherries and strawberries with a molasses undertone. The vanilla spice comes through with a warming allspice note, but the main act on the palate is the savoury & meaty notes of pastrami and tar. The everlasting finish highlights the tightly knit, but chewy and silky tannins.. FOOD PAIRING. Red game meat such as venison or more flavourful birds such as grouse are brilliant pairings, especially with a fruit reduction sauce and warm potatoes.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Produced from a single vineyard on the estate, with vines over 40 years old.
