Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé 2009 Château Montrose

£328

This great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon cuvée is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Structured and tannic, yet with the elegance and refinement befitting its Grand Cru Classé status, with maturity it develops outstanding complexity. Considerable ageing potential is a Montrose hallmark, and the wine is renowned for being exceptionally long-lived. It undergoes maturation for around 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels before bottling. Due to an exceptionally rigorous selection at each stage of production, in both vineyard and winery, the 'grand vin' accounts for a mere 35%-40% of the Château's total annual output.
