For his Two Takes Vol. 2: Big Band album Jared taps into the deep well of renowned New York- and Miami-based arrangers and composers―Alan Ferber Jim McNeely Mike Holober Miho Hazama Darcy James Argue Laurence Hobgood Brian Krock and John Daversa― to explore where they could take his compositions. (He also showcased these tunes with his smaller band on Two Takes Vol. 1: Quintet.) “With one exception I knew all of these arrangers says Jared. “I had played in their bands so we had friendships. When you think about it this was a crazy thing. But I was determined. Jared set the sessions into motion by giving most of the arrangers a recording and a lead sheet. “Sometimes the arranger would ask how many solos I wanted and then would ask me if I wanted to solo“ he says. “I didn’t need to solo. That wasn’t the goal of this project. If an arranger put a section in that was fine. Jared expresses pride in the entire eight-song outing that’s co-produced by his good friend and longtime collaborator Mike Holober (who brilliantly transforms “Climb with crescendos and driving grooves). “We had one rehearsal for each band and then headed into the studio Jared says. “What we came up with was beyond my expectations.
