We love sparkling wine, and so do the Germans. In fact, they drink more sparkling per capita than anywhere else in the world, and the vast majority of it is their own domestic production, referred to as Sekt. This is Deutscher Sekt, which means the grapes are German and the wine has been made in Germany - in this case, solely produced in the famous South West valley of the Mosel and by the Loosen family. For over 200 years, the Loosen family have been making wines in the Mosel, and since 1988, Erni has taken on the reins. This wine is made traditionally, with the second fermentation happening in bottle. On the nose, the varietal character is obvious - very Riesling-y, with notes of lime, peach, green apple, and white blossom. It's a grown-up wine, perfect for those who appreciate a more refined sparkling wine.
