Ch. Montrose Grand Cru Classe Red Wine, 75cL, Saint Estephe, 2016By Winebuyers

£199

Ch. Montrose, a Grand Cru Classe from Saint Estephe, is one of the two 2nd Growth chateaux in the region. Located in the eastern end of the commune, directly north of the Marbuzet village, and with beautifully ventilated vineyards only 800m from the Gironde River. The estate, acquired by Bouygues in 2006, has invested significantly in the vineyards, defining microclimates and suitability for grape varieties, and in building new cellars. The 68 hectares of vineyards have a south-east aspect and deep gravel and clay soils, planted with two thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, a little less than one third Merlot, and the remainder Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Ch. Montrose is known for its concentration, flesh and depth with a fine tannic structure that ensures most vintages will age for decades. This balance and fruit concentration also makes Ch. Montrose accessible much earlier than other wines from the region.

The Ch. Montrose Grand Cru Classe Red Wine is suitable for home wine cellars or sophisticated gift giving scenarios.
