From vines grown solely above granite bedrock, Solos de Granito has alluring aromas of yellow peach, lychee and honeydew melon. The palate has richness and breadth, while holding on to the region's hallmark freshness. It has a long, pure, sustained fruit note on the finish, and is a superbly satisfying wine. Somewhat reminiscent of the dry Grosses Gewächs Riesling wines of the Pfalz, this tastes like it could develop well with age, although there's nothing to prevent enjoyment immediately. Granite is both paler in colour and more resistant to weathering than schist. These attributes mean that it is not warmed as much by the sun's heat, and vines grown over it cannot develop such deep root systems, and so can experience more water stress during dry periods. This can be an advantage in the Vinho Verde region, due to the significant rainfall that it receives throughout the growing season.
